Make a Better City
Provincial Government
Level Rule
Student Council
November
15, 2019
Dear
Staff of Connaught School,
We
are the Grade 6 students participating in student council. We are learning about government, how to form
a student council and the electoral process. We have formed political parties where we are
learning how to work as a cooperative team.
Our members of the political party are choosing to be candidates for
ridings at the school. A riding (at
Connaught School) will be each class. For example, Madeline belonging to Connaught
Voices and Alex belonging The Best Party are candidates for Mrs. Clark’s class.
We are now in the campaign and election
stage. Please inform your class about
our learning and that they may see posters and hear speeches in the next few
weeks. Our election will be Monday,
December 2. Ms. Kristy will follow up
with more details.
Sincerely,
Grade
6 Students

Orange Shirt Day is September 30th
Orange Shirt Day is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission (SJM) Residential School (1891-1981) Commemoration Project and Reunion events that took place in Williams Lake, BC, Canada, in May 2013. This project was the vision of Esketemc (Alkali Lake) Chief Fred Robbins, who is a former student himself.
On this day of September 30th, we call upon humanity to listen with open ears to the stories of survivors and their families, and to remember those that didn’t make it.
